같은 환경에서 사람들은 누구나 편안함을 추구하는 방향으로 움직인다. 가령 지하철 역에서 계단과 에스컬레이터가 나란히 있다면 계단을 이용하는 사람은 드물다. 가만히 앉아서도 올라갈 수 있는 에스컬레이터를 선호하기 때문이다. 그러나 항상 효율적인 것이 효과적인 결과를 낳는 것은 아니다. 짧은 거리라도 몸을 움직임으로써 체력 관리를 하고 이에 부가적인 재미를 얻을 수 있다면 어떨까? 기술의 발전이 혁혁한 시대에 아날로그적인 감성이 느껴지는 즐거운 계단을 디자인한 그룹이 있다.

스웨덴의 Rolighetsteorin는 평범한 계단을 도레미 소리가 나는 피아노 건반으로 새롭게 redesign하였다. 한 계단씩 밟고 올라가면 소리가 울리면서 사용자에게 재미있는 경험을 제공한다. 에스컬레이터를 이용하는 사용자들도 피아노 모양의 계단을 보고 일부러 계단을 밟고 올라간다. 소리가 나는 것이 신기한지 몇 번씩 지나가며 건반을 연주하는 아이의 모습도 보인다. 생활 속에서 새로운 경험을 제공하는 디자인, 한번쯤 눈 여겨 볼만한 사례이다.
